Scaled Antbird
Drymophila squamata
The scaled antbird is 12 to 14 cm (4.7 to 5.5 in) long and weighs 10.5 to 11 g (0.37 to 0.39 oz). Adult males of the nominate subspecies have a black crown with white spots along its side, a wide white supercilium, and a black stripe through the eye on an otherwise black-spotted white face. Their upperparts are black with white spots. Their wings are black and their wing coverts black with wide white tips. Their tail is barred with black and white. Their throat and underparts are white with black spots. Females have the same pattern but different colors than males. Voice: The scaled antbird's song is an "xtr. high, calm series of 4-7 sharp, pushed-out, descending notes". Its calls include an "abrupt 'pip " that may be repeated two to four times and a high-pitched short rattle that decreases in pitch and volume.

Stripe-backed Antbird
Myrmorchilus strigilatus
The stripe-backed antbird is 15 to 16 cm (5.9 to 6.3 in) long and weighs 23 to 26 g (0.81 to 0.92 oz). Adult males of the nominate subspecies have a white supercilium and a dark line through the eye on an otherwise buffy face. Their crown, neck, and back are rufous with black streaks; their rump and uppertail coverts are plain rufous. Their central tail feathers are rufous and the outer ones black with white outer edges and tips. Their wings are black with some rufous on the edges of the flight feathers; their wing coverts are black with white tips. Their throat and breast are black. Voice: The two subspecies of the stripe-backed antbird appear to have the same song. It is a "ery/extr. high, sharp 'sreet-soweét' " that is sometimes followed by a "strident, slightly descending 'sreet-sreet-sreet-sruw-sruw' ". The species' call is "a long...whistle, entirely downslurred or slightly rising and falling".
