Black-streaked Puffbird
Malacoptila fulvogularis
The black-streaked puffbird is 19 to 22 cm (7.5 to 8.7 in) long and weighs about 65 g (2.3 oz). Its head is blackish with thin white streaks and a white spot in front of the eye. Its upperparts are dark brown with thin white streaks on the shoulder becoming buffy triangles on the back. The wings are brown with buffy scallops on the coverts and the tail is solid brown. The throat and upper breast are ochraceous; the lower breast, upper belly, and flanks are striped black and white; and the center of the belly is unmarked dingy whitish. Voice: The black-streaked puffbird's song is "a very high-pitched ascending whistle, lasting under 4 seconds."

Moustached Puffbird
Malacoptila mystacalis
The moustached puffbird is 20 to 23 cm (7.9 to 9.1 in) long and weighs 47 to 50 g (1.7 to 1.8 oz). Unlike most puffbirds, the male and female have different plumages. Both sexes have bristles around the base of the large bill, and white "whiskers", which are actually tufts of feathers. The adult male is drab brown above with white to buffy spots on the back and the wing coverts. Its tail is brown with small buffy markings. Its lores and a half ring behind the eye are white. The chin, throat, and breast are rufous with indistinct darker streaks on the last. Voice: The moustached puffbird's song is a "igh thin peeping" like that of other puffbirds in its genus.
