Black Antbird

The black antbird is 13.5 to 15 cm (5.3 to 5.9 in) long and weighs 15 to 17 g (0.53 to 0.60 oz). Males are almost entirely blackish to dark gray. They have a white patch between their scapulars, a small hidden white patch under the scapulars, gray edges on their flight feathers, and white tips on their wing coverts. Females have an olive-tinged dark gray crown, upperparts, wings, and tail with a small white interscapular patch. Their wing coverts and the edges of their flight feathers have a yellowish brown tinge. Their underparts are reddish brown to reddish yellow-brown. Voice: The male black antbird sings "a series of 4–7 countable...sharp notes rising in pitch and accelerating slightly" that has been written as "wor, chur, cheh-cheh-che-che-chi-chi-chi?". Silvery-cheeked Antshrike

The silvery-cheeked antshrike is about 14 cm (5.5 in) long. Both sexes have a crest. Adult males of both subspecies have a black forehead, crest, front of the face, throat, and breast center. The rest of their head and underparts are grayish white. Their back is brown. Their wings are black with white tips on the coverts and cinnamon edges on the flight feathers. Their tail is black with white spots and feather tips. Adult females of the nominate subspecies have a rufous forehead, crest, and crown. The rest of their head and their underparts are pale buffy brown. Voice: The subspecies of the silvery-cheeked antshrike have some vocal differences. The loudsong of subspecies S. c. niedeguidonae is "an initial series of sharp notes with frequency modulation (rapid increase and decrease, like an inverted 'U' in shape) followed by a short series of final raspy notes".
